"He liked baking. His job was his hobby and his hobby was his job." -Joe Kleinbach

So many people ask me the question, "Why do you bake?"  I stumble when it comes to fully answering this question, however I think Joe Kleinbach has finally answered it. I bake because from a very young age I found myself fascinated by the art my family would make with simple ingredients and utensils. I longed to pick up a mixing bowl and spoon and begin "sculpting" myself. I grabbed an apron when every opportunity arose, and eventually began solo cooking and/or baking. I took Julia Child's advice, "You do not have to make fancy or complicated things, just good food from fresh ingredients" for awhile, and then I attempted mastering more industrious things. I made my first dessert when I was nine, which was a flour-less chocolate torte with a cookie crust and frosted with chocolate creamcheese buttercream. Yes, I know that isn't anything fancy, but it is a start. I continued to make numerous recipes, create a few recipes here and there, but I primarily had fun. So I guess the answer to the question, "Why do you bake?" is, like Joe Kleinbach said, because I simply  like it, it is a hobby of mine that I hope will become a job at some stage in my life.
